The Case for Christie: One of the GREATS

When those posts and discussions arise about the best tournament bass anglers or who would be on the Mount Rushmore of the sport, Jason Christie needs to be included in the conversation. Just two days ago, he won his 10th Bassmaster event on the Pasquotank River/Albemarle Sound with 92-7. This is his second win of the season, previously taking first in the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway earlier in March, his tournament resume spans well over two decades, across multiple professional organizations and formats.

In his time fishing the Bassmaster Elite Series, he has won ten events, including the 2022 Bassmaster Classic, along with 30 top tens, and was runner-up in the 2017 angler of the year. He is one of seven anglers in all of the history of BASS to have double digit wins.

Jason was a hammer in FLW competition where he climbed the ranks as a regional competitor and he would develop to hold his own across a national field, winning ten events between 2001 and 2013. Growing up as an Oklahoma native, he began competing in FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) tournaments in his region. Building a name for himself, he would work his way to become the Okie Division angler of the year in 2003, 06, and 07.

No surprise he has also won an event in the National Professional Fishing League (NPFL) on Santee Cooper in 2025- setting an organization three day weight-record with 82-12.

When he gets on a roll, Christie can be too hot to stop. Throughout several times in his career, he has multiple wins in a season, sometimes weeks apart or even in consecutive events. In 2013, he earned one of the most uncommon achievements in competitive bass fishing, winning back-to-back FLW Tour and Bassmaster Elite Series events in April 2013. (Beaver Lake FLW event April 11-14, and Bull Shoals Bassmaster event on the 18th-21st. What a week that must have been!)

When we look at his history in competition, some themes here are consistent. It does not matter if he is fishing lowland reservoirs, early season mountain river systems, tidal basins, Great Lakes smallmouth fisheries, or deep herring lakes- he is a tenacious force that is skilled in versatility to catch fish all over the country. Embracing advancements in tech, Jason is a master of duality for his skills from fishing shallow junk and also being one of the first to really apply forward-facing sonar in its early days.

If there was an All-Star bass fishing team of current anglers, Jason Christie would be a starter and would be in contention for the captain spot.
